The premise and synopsis of this book intrigued me. However, reading it was somewhat different. I’ve not read a book about Irish Travellers so found parts of this book very interesting, but the actual writing, if you can call it that, was painful.

It was one of those grammar-less books that drool out the content without you really ever knowing who was where and who said what. Books like this confused me and I find I have to go back and re-read a passage just to work out who was talking, or who a character was talking to. Painful. Was it meant to be her diary? I don’t know. It just annoyed me and I struggled to get into it. Much of it washed over me and I was bored. Also, the lead character, Melody, annoyed me. I wanted to slap her and tell her to buck up her ideas and get on with it. Yawn.

It got such high reviews on Goodreads that I’m utterly perplexed as to what book they were reading, and if I downloaded the wrong one? Maybe it’s me?

The best bit about finishing the book is now I now get to start my new Maria Semple book and I’ve knocked one book off my 35 books for the year, challenge!
